Once you join the world of CBD wellness, you may have many questions to ask regarding CBD, Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil, cannabinoids, and how to take Hemp Oil to improve your quality of life and lead an active and happy lifestyle. For example, you may wonder how long Hemp Oil and CBD, in particular, stay detectable in the body and how long the effects last.
Unfortunately, there is no single number that defines that. Each person is unique and this is truer than ever when it comes to the world of Hemp Oil. The answer depends on several issues that are specific to every individual.
Read on to understand how long CBD may be detectable in your body.
Hemp Oil Dosage
The first thing to remember when it comes to Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil is that it’s not psychotropic, nor is it addictive. Hemp Oil is well-tolerated by the body and has shown to have potential anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties.
But how much should you take?
Unfortunately, there is no standard dosage or official serving size. When starting to experiment with Hemp Oil, people often “start low, go slow”: they start with a low dosage and gauge how their body reacts to it. They then increase the doses very slowly over the course of several weeks until they reach their target goal.
How Hemp Oil affects the body depends on several criteria, including your metabolism, age, method of use, and what food you consume it with.
Metabolism
Our body utilizes and expels substances and natural compounds by metabolizing them. The faster the metabolism, the quicker our body consumes the substance. This holds true for Hemp Oil as well.
People with faster metabolism or those who exercise a lot will have a more active metabolism than those living a more sedentary life. This means that Hemp Oil will be metabolized faster—and thus be detectable for less time—if you run, swim, and lead an active life.
Conversely, Hemp Oil will stay longer in the body and be detectable longer if you prefer a quieter, more settled life.

Methods of Use
Depending on how you consume your Hemp Oil, you will find there are differences in how much of it enters your bloodstream and stays there. We use bioavailability to measure how much of a compound stays in your body after you consume it.
Bioavailability is also related to how fast Hemp Oil enters your bloodstream. The faster it does, the faster it is also metabolized, and the shorter the time it will remain detectable in your body.
Hemp Oil Tinctures offer high bioavailability. By placing a few drops sublingually—under your tongue—and holding them there for a minute before swallowing, Hemp Oil enters your bloodstream directly through the membrane under your tongue. This maximizes bioavailability and lets you feel its effects within as little as 15 minutes.
When you take a Hemp Oil Capsule, Hemp Oil enters your digestive tract and is metabolized by the stomach and liver before entering the bloodstream. This takes longer and some of its potency is lost along the way. However, it remains in your body longer, so you feel its effects longer—and it will be detectable for longer.
Finally, skincare products like Hemp Oil Body Butter and Hemp Oil Body Lotion stay on the skin and do not break the blood brain barrier.
Food
Taking Hemp Oil with food or on its own has an important effect on how long it will remain detectable in your body.
Because CBD is lipophilic, it stays longer in the body if it finds fatty foods to attach to. Taking Hemp Oil with avocado, full-fat yogurt, cheese, or fatty nuts will help your body retain it for longer. Ingesting Hemp Oil on an empty stomach means that it will linger in your body and will be detectable for less time.
General Rules of Hemp Oil Consumption
We mentioned at the beginning that there’s no single number that applies to everyone. There are, however, certain rules—rules of thumb, if you wish, that apply to Hemp Oil consumption.

How Long Will CBD Stay in My System?
Sublingual Use
Sublingual use means you are putting a drop of Hemp Oil tincture under your tongue and leaving it there for a minute before swallowing. The Hemp Oil enters the bloodstream directly through the tongue capillaries, thus bypassing the digestive system.
In this case, Hemp Oil will take around 30 minutes to take effect and the effects could last for 2 to 4 hours.
Edibles
Ingesting Hemp Oil is the most common way of taking it. However, it is also the slowest way, since it needs to go through the digestive system before entering the bloodstream. In this case, it can take up to 2 hours for Hemp Oil to take effect. However, the effects last longer: from 4 to 6 hours.
How Long Does It Take for Hemp Oil to Leave My System?
If you are interested in knowing how long it takes for your body to clear all traces of CBD, it usually takes 2 to 5 days for CBD to be untraceable from your system if you are dosing small doses on a daily basis.
Here are some further guidelines to help you.
- CBD’s Half-Life in Your System: Half-life refers to the time it takes for a given quantity of CBD to reduce to half of it. The half-life of CBD is 18 to 32 hours.
- Ingesting Hemp Oil: If you are taking Hemp Oil with your food, it will take 5 to 10 days to leave your system. Sublingual use will take slightly less to clear off your system.
- CBD in Urine: CBD is detectable for 24 hours in urine but can reach up to 14 days for frequent and heavy users.
- CBD in Saliva: CBD in saliva will be detectable for up to 36 hours.
- CBD in Blood: CBD can be traceable in your blood for up to 7 days, but it’s usually much less than that.
Drug Tests Are Looking for THC
It should be stressed that Hemp Oil and CBD are hardly the main concern about drug tests. Hemp Oil is non-psychoactive, non-addictive, and non-psychotropic.
Therefore, drug tests do not check for CBD but for other substances such as THC, cocaine, and heroin. A drug test will not detect CBD or Hemp Oil—but it will detect THC, which is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug by the DEA.
THC remains detectable in urine for 3 days and up to a month, although the latter is rather infrequent. It clears off the blood relatively quickly, within a few hours to up to 7 days. THC metabolites will be traceable in blood for up to 7 days as well. Finally, THC will be detectable in saliva for up to 3 days.
Why Does Hemp Oil Quality Matter?
That is why you should always purchase your Hemp Oil from reputable and trustworthy manufacturers who run frequent tests on their products.
Because the Hemp Oil market is relatively unregulated, producers must control the quality of their products themselves. Unfortunately, many Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil products in the market do not contain the actual amount of cannabinoids stated on the label.
This can be of concern when it comes to THC. For a Hemp Oil product to be legal for sale in the United States, it needs to contain less than 0.3% of THC.
If a product contains THC beyond this threshold, not only is it illegal but it also puts the consumer in a dangerous situation: a random drug test could detect the elevated THC levels.
It is generally agreed that for Hemp Oil products that contain less than 0.3% of THC, it would take 1,000 to 2,000 mg per day to reach the THC threshold detectable by a test. Good quality and well-tested Hemp Oil products should not trigger a drug test as the THC levels should be below the detection level of the common SAMHSA drug test.
However, a Hemp Oil product that has not undergone strict testing could have elevated THC levels, thus potentially tripping a drug test—to the complete shock of the consumer.
