Researchers studying Hemp have already discovered over a hundred cannabinoids. Amazingly enough, they are still discovering more. One of the recently discovered is Delta 10 THC. Delta 10 THC is a cannabinoid found in minute quantities in industrial Hemp. Scientists have discovered that Delta 10 THC can also be produced from CBD.
Delta 10 THC is closely related to Delta 8 and Delta 9, the latter being the well-known THC. The differences between these lie in the arrangement of their molecules. They all share the same chemical formula. However, Delta 10 THC has a double bond on the 10th carbon chain; Delta 8 has the double bond on the 8th carbon chain, and Delta 9 has it on the 9th carbon chain.
Although there is little research regarding Delta 10 THC, what little we do know suggests that it acts differently on the body and brain than Delta 8 or Delta 9. It appears to create a focused and alert feeling rather than a sedated one.
While this may sound enticing, Delta 10 THC is produced in a chemical way that uses harsh solvents and other chemical agents. While here at Synchronicity we strongly encourage research into Hemp, we believe that the closer to nature we stay, the more beneficial Hemp products are to the human body.
How Does the Human Body Use Delta 10?
Delta 10 THC is a cannabinoid that appears to act in similar ways to THC. It is mildly psychoactive, but seemingly less so than Delta 9 THC.
Our bodies are equipped with an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is tasked with keeping our bodies in balance (the technical term for which is homeostasis). Our ECS is responsible for keeping our mood, appetite, reproduction, temperature perception, memory, motor perception, and several other functions in balance.
Our ECS works with two so-called endocannabinoids—human cannabinoids—called anandamide and 2-AG. These cannabinoids are released by the ECS when our body is out of balance. They bind to their respective receptors, called CB1 and CB2, and alert the body to fix the problem. Anandamide binds to the CB1 receptors and 2-AG binds to the CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are mainly found in the brain while CB2 receptors are primarily found in the immune system and gut.
Research has shown that THC is closely related to anandamide and CBD is similar to 2-AG. Like anandamide, THC interacts with the CB1 receptors in the brain. This is the reason why THC has such an impact on our mood.
We are still not certain how Delta 10 acts. However, it is theorized that it, too, binds to the CB1 receptors.
What Are the Effects of Delta 10?
Anecdotal evidence suggests that Delta 10 may have a stimulating effect on the brain. It seems to give a mental boost while having only a minor impact on the body. People who take Delta 10 often consume it in the morning for higher alertness, mental clarity, vigor, and focus.
How Is Delta 10 Produced?
Because Delta 10 is found in such small quantities in industrial Hemp, manufacturers usually produce it through chemical means.
Delta 10 can be produced from crude CBD. The process requires Vitamin C and carbon. Delta 10 can also be produced from CBD distillate, in which case it needs to be processed with solvents and acids.
Both methods of production mean that Delta 10 products are not naturally processed and risk containing solvents, harmful chemicals, acids, and other unwanted compounds.
The CBD market is unregulated and it is up to each CBD manufacturer to uphold high-quality standards. In the case of CBD and Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil, there have been several initiatives such as the US Hemp Authority, which certifies that CBD producers observe strict standards in terms of quality control, farming, manufacturing, product labeling, and compliance with FDA rules and regulations. Synchronicity has been certified by the US Hemp Authority as well as other agencies, thus setting the standard in the CBD market.
However, there are no such initiatives for Delta 10 products. This means that consumers are often unsure about the quality of the products they purchase. Add to this the harsh chemical way Delta 10 is produced, and it seems that Delta 10 is a long way from Hemp’s botanical wholesomeness.
Will Delta 10 Show in a Drug Test?
Drug tests commonly used look for metabolites. Metabolites are produced when our bodies break down THC. The metabolites that drug tests look for are the same for Delta 8, Delta 9, and Delta 10. This means that a drug test will probably detect the consumption of Delta 10 because of the presence of these metabolites.
If you are regularly tested for work, we suggest you either discuss it with your company’s HR department or avoid consuming Delta 10 before your scheduled drug test.
Is Delta 10 Legal?
Delta 10’s legality is a bit of a gray zone.
When the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the production, consumption, and sale of CBD, it made it clear that ‘synthetically derived’ THC products are illegal. However, there is no legal clarity as to what constitutes synthetically derived products.
Since CBD from Hemp is legal, Delta 10 is assumed to be legal as long as it is produced from CBD that comes from industrial Hemp and not marijuana. However, states like Colorado and New York have banned Delta 10 until further research on its effects and production methods. Interestingly, Colorado and New York have legalized recreational cannabis but seem to be vigilant about Delta 10.
It is hoped that the proposed MORE Act will help clarify these issues of legality if and when the US Senate passes it.
Synchronicity and Delta 10
Our Synchronicity Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil products contain all the wholesome botanical cannabinoids found in industrial Hemp. Our products are teeming with CBC, CBN, CBG, CBDV, CBDA, THCV, and other cannabinoids, as well as terpenes, flavonoids, minerals, and vitamins.
We are aware that industrial Hemp only contains traces of Delta 10. However, our gentle infusion process, called LipidTrans™ uses a non-invasive method that avoids chemicals or solvents. With this process, we infuse Whole-Plant Hemp into coconut oil and let the wholesomeness of Hemp seep into the oil. This ensures that all the beneficial compounds of Hemp are gently transferred into the oil, including traces of natural Delta 10.
